Quarantine phone calls with travel experts sheltered in place around the world about the future of travel, and escapism, in a post-coronavirus world.

Hi, I’m Jess Drucker. I’ve traveled to over 40 countries and lived in four. I was rammed by a cow in India, had dengue fever in Belize, flew over my handlebars riding down the death road in Bolivia. But nothing has scared me more than this deadly virus, and the fear and uncertainty that might kill a collective desire to travel.

Quarantined in my Brooklyn apartment, hearing only silence and ambulances, I began to picture my fellow travelers around the world. What do they imagine about how we will ever sit on planes, stay at hotels, backpack on chicken buses and ride bullet trains again?

What are their lockdown lives like?

As the travel industry adapts in real time, in our conversations we try to understand what  the new normal will look like when this pandemic is over.
