In Proverbs 3, Solomon gets excited (or "geeked up" as Sara would say) about sharing the rewards that come from living out wisdom in everyday life. It’s a back-and-forth volley of if/thens: IF you keep God’s teachings, THEN you’ll have long life and peace. The premises and promises continue throughout the entire chapter, illustrating the glorious and rich benefits of practicing a life of wisdom. Listen to the discussion this week as we explore all these rewards!
BE IN THE WORD (This Week’s Verses):
Read Proverbs 3
BE DOERS, NOT JUST HEARERS (Practical Application):
- This week, pick one of the practical ways to exercise wisdom from verses 31-35:
- Be good to others if it’s in your power to do so.
- When you have it to give, give it immediately instead of later.
- Don’t take advantage of anyone’s trust
- Don’t argue for the sake of arguing
- Don’t envy the wins that the ungodly get and think their ways are more beneficial
QUOTES FROM THIS WEEK:
“The word translated ‘trust’ means ‘to lie helpless, facedown.’ It pictures a servant waiting for the master’s command in readiness to obey, or a defeated soldier yielding himself to the conquering general.” (Dr. Warren Wiersbe)
“Deciding not to forget God’s word is more than a mental exercise of memory. It’s also connected to a life of obedience… If one mentally remembers God’s word yet fails to obey it, we could right say he or she has forgotten God’s commands” (David Guzik)
