In this solo episode, I took a short detour from our usual Chad-and-Reed format and went back through some foundational clips from early Podcasting 2.0. I revisited Adam Curry’s explanation of value for value, why it works differently from a subscription model like Patreon, and why leaving the value decision up to the listener creates a healthier relationship between creators and audiences. From there, I played and reacted to a long clip from November 2020 where the idea of bringing Bitcoin Lightning into podcasting was first really laid out in public, including app-level streaming payments, value splits, and the bigger goal of making podcast funding more open and censorship-resistant.I also used the episode to reflect on how those early ideas connect to what Reed and I keep circling around now: RSS, Bitcoin, Nostr, wallets, community, and the constant tension between making powerful tools sovereign versus making them simple enough for normal people to use. A lot of what was being imagined six years ago still feels surprisingly current, from wallet UX and hosting-provider infrastructure to app incentives and the role of open protocols. I wrapped by teeing up one more classic clip on why advertising can become a form of censorship, which really underscores the whole mission behind value for value and why this corner of podcasting still matters to me.Podcasting 2.0: https://podcasting2.org/Podcast Index: https://podcastindex.org/Podcast Namespace (Podcasting 2.0 tags/spec): https://github.com/Podcastindex-org/podcast-namespaceNo Agenda Show: https://www.noagendashow.net/Buzzsprout: https://www.buzzsprout.com/Lightning Labs: https://lightning.engineering/Breez: https://breez.technology/Sphinx Chat: https://www.sphinx.chat/Podfriend: https://podfriend.com/Fountain: https://fountain.fm/Wavlake: https://wavlake.com/Alby: https://getalby.com/TrueFans: https://www.truefans.app/
