In the first chapter of his record, Nephi said he would show unto his readers that the “tender mercies of the Lord are over all those whom he hath chosen, because of their faith, to make them mighty even unto the power of deliverance.” Nephi proves this point over and over again by telling stories about his family's journeys and rebellions. In each case, it was only through faith and righteousness that Nephi was able to call down the heavenly powers of deliverance.
