Hi friends!
Neg here, this episode is very near and dear to my heart! As I type this, the scared pieces of me want to delete the episode entirely. Wanting to hide entirely from vulnerability, but that's not what this podcast is about. OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder) is quite literally what it says it is, an obsessive or compulsive behavior or thought that a person feels they need to repeat. As my therapist told me, OCD can take parts or "a territory" of your life away from you. So here I am sharing my story, in hopes that it will make you feel ok with your story! I've had OCD since I was about 8 years old and am just now getting the help I really needed. This is my brain and it's what I've been dealt, I am taking back the driver seat by telling my OCD that I am appreciative of all the safety it provided but that I can now let it have a break. Your brain is just like the rest of your body, it doesn't need to be perfect. Show your self some compassion. If you've ever experienced OCD, please feel free to reach out to me or watch out for a blog post soon! Research Cognitive behavioral therapy and Exposure Response Prevention/Therapy- Therapist in those fields are great help! If you feel you're at the end of the road with ANYTHING you're experiencing, please reach out, there is always someone who can help, you are loved and valuable. Below are links to the suicide prevention line and a great book about OCD.
