Invictus poem is one of the best inspirational poems to listen especially in hard times if you're losing your inner motivation and hope. In this inspirational poetry by William Ernest Henley, the poet motivates himself when there is no hope. The poet has already lost one of his legs when he writes this life changing poem. So, in the midst of such mental and bodily anguish, the poet strives to summon courage.

This is our next poem in the series of Poetry That Inspires by William Henley who encourages readers to understand that no one has authority over our lives. It is entirely up to us to decide how we want to live our life. The main message Henley wants to convey through this inspirational poem in English is that one should become one's own soul's friend, philosopher, and guide.

Invictus BY WILLIAM ERNEST HENLEY

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
     For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.
