I am an anti-googler, I just do not like being the product a company is selling. so when I hear this great tool is free to use and is makes everyone’s life better my radar goes up! tailscale, great tool, a company not looking to make any money? p2p connects are very cheap so they do not need much, but is my radar up for something I am not seeing? just do not like connects to everything on my network with my radar going off. hey guys! how do you work out the go about feeling of “why am i doing all this”? why do i make my life more complicated on running my things if i am the only one here? if it takes so much time? the hobby inevitably turns to a 2nd job, how do you keep yourself motivated? :) i think this conversation could insipire many of us whom may start feeling defeated

I *finally* got around to wrapping my head around ZFS. I had 3 unused 4tb drives, but still had everything running on a 500gb at 99% capacity. Like Alex, I run nextcloud as a container, and I finally have a decent backup story wth ZFS send. I was amazed at how much snappier nextcloud was with the database on its own volume tuned for DBs (16k block size, etc). Thanks for all the guidance over the years!

i tried mozilla deepspeech locally and it does need a beefy system to work with descent speed, if you can get a nvidia T400/T600 which tdp is ~30W. voice recognition was fine and there is Kaldi which suppose to be an offline solution as well . i havent tried that

I’ve been using Jellyfin and Infuse for a while now and it’s been great. My family still wants to watch Live TV and Jellyfins Live TV isn’t great. I’ve started using Channels DVR you host it your self. But it’s not Open Source and it does need a subscription. But the family acceptance factor has been amazing, it works like a tradition DVR like an old Tivo. You can even create Virtual Channels that play your local media, which has been huge for the older members of my family. Def worth a look.

First boost! Trying out Fountain to earn some sats to boost in but there do seem to be some rough edges that bug me (loosing playback progress, jumping things in the queue, etc). I'm a perennial lurker in the Discord - I check in every now and again in-between work, wife and life. Long time JB listener - thanks for the great shows - Self Hosted is a particular favourite.
