Episode zero. Apocalypse means an uncovering.

Before the first live show, Erik Cason and Walker America sat down to say what they are afraid of, what they hope for, and why they think it is one fight.

A machine that sees everything, sold as help. Open weights without open data. P(doom) against P(boom). Why it will always be easier to defend than to attack, and what that means for every lock in America. The strongman temptation, and why neither of them wants one. Communism or fascism as the two failures in view. Speaking the truth as the hard thing, and the soul as the reason any of it matters.

It ends where the show begins: apocalypse or abundance is up to us.

Corrections

• “People should not be afraid of their governments” is from the film V for Vendetta (2005), not Benjamin Franklin.
• Che Guevara’s “great feelings of love” line is from “Socialism and Man in Cuba” (1965), a letter, not a UN speech.
• “Dual power” is Lenin’s April 1917 article, and Imperial Germany, not the Western Allies, sent him back to Russia.
• Thoreau’s Civil Disobedience (1849) came before Ruskin’s Unto This Last (1860); Ruskin changed Gandhi.
• The Panopticon was Samuel Bentham’s idea; his brother Jeremy developed it (1791).
• Yellowstone (1872) came before Theodore Roosevelt; the scale of what he protected was his.
• Ostracism exiled a citizen feared to be gaining too much power; it wasn’t a penalty for wasting the assembly’s time.

Receipts

• Eight intermediate certificate keys of one Indian certificate authority, eMudhra, were computable; one private key was the number 4 (The Register, 20 Oct 2026). An NSA link is unverified.
• PHP2Shell: two critical remote-code-execution flaws in PHP, CVE-2026-109618 and -109619 (Qualys, 20–22 Oct 2026).
• PHP runs 69.3% of websites whose server-side language is known (W3Techs, 22 Oct 2026). On air: “78, 76 or 68”.
• One accusation against a named person in Chapter VII is marked NOT ESTABLISHED on screen: no charge, conviction or court finding supports it.

For the ledger

• P-010, Erik: a populist communist movement in America that turns on the old and their homes.
• P-012, Erik: a “digital 9/11” used to lock the internet down: KYC to get online, a state digital coin.
• P-013, Erik: the forty-hour week ends, if people own the AI and the robots that work for them.

Recommended on air

• V for Vendetta, Alan Moore and David Lloyd (graphic novel). Erik rereads it every year.

Music

Satie, Beethoven, Chopin, Bach, Schubert, Mahler, Grieg and Dvořák, in public-domain and CC0 recordings (Musopen, via archive.org and Wikimedia Commons). Cold open, sign-off and credits: Beethoven, Egmont Overture.

Archival

Public-domain film from the Prelinger Archives, the National Archives, NASA and the Library of Congress, and public-domain and CC0 images from Wikimedia Commons and The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

How this was made

Made by The Reckoning, the show’s own voice: an AI working from Erik and Walker’s words and the public record. Cut from the full recording: the pre-roll, a coffee break and filler words. Nothing said was reworded or reordered. Contested claims on screen are labelled: public record, unverified or not established. Erik and Walker watched it before it went out.

Advisory

Strong language, and blunt talk about political violence. The hosts’ anger is part of the record; the show’s method is refusal, not violence.
