definitely a nerdy episode. excellent!
my PSUs have no power transformers -- they're all switchmode (luckily!).
single phase (AC) power has an active and a neutral. doesn't matter what you plug into the wall thats the way it is. no magic swapping around (crazy talk!).
grounding is always important when the chassis is metal.
i wouldn't describe an ASIC as a processor, just like i wouldn't describe a processor as an ASIC.
heat comes from power usage. higher clockrate can increase power usage.
