Value Belonging. I think this can get a bad rap when we associate it with trying to fit in back in our awkward teenage years. But I’m going to assume that now that you’re an adult, you understand that you get to choose your friends and your community. Consider this, our personal resilience is interwoven into the resilience of the communities to which we belong. Some communities can lift us up when we are down and give us the capacity to deal with whatever challenges come our way. One way to work on increasing your sense of belonging is to look for ways you are similar with others instead of focusing on the ways that you are different. It requires acceptance of others and letting go of your judgments which build walls. Don't forget to take time to improve the community that you are in. Either by volunteering, taking a supportive role or assuming a leadership role. Pick one that reflects your passions and talents and gives you a chance to contribute. Want answers?
