Luke 11:29-36

Main Point: God is glorified when Jesus, our Lord, is recognized as greater than all.
1. People’s desire for a sign.
- Luke 11:16 Others, testing Him, sought from Him a sign from heaven.
- Luke 11:29 And while the crowds were thickly gathered together, He began to say, “This is an evil generation. It seeks a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah the prophet.
- 1 Corinthians 1:22-23a For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; 23 but we preach Christ crucified,
- *Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.
2. Jesus’ denouncement of the people.
- Luke 11:29a And while the crowds were thickly gathered together, He began to say, “This is an evil generation. It seeks a sign,
- John 6:26 Jesus answered them and said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.
3. Jesus’ declaration about the sign.
- Luke 11:29b and no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah the prophet.
- John 2:18-19 So the Jews answered and said to Him, “What sign do You show to us, since You do these things?” 19 Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”
