Hello, Chris, Wes, and Brent. I've been listening since dubstep Allan, and I thought it was finally time to get a membership. Also, tossing you 100k sats so that KDE is rightfully pronounced as Kuh Dee Eeeh, and OpenSuse is rightfully pronounced as Open Susie. Thanks for being a part of my life since 2011. Sincerely, Derrik.

Someone should make a Kindle-like phone with an eink display. That way we can install GrapheneOS on it and call it “The Graphene Paper”

lizard Brent would make for a really good mascot, or since we already have one, maybe some merch? 😉 I know I boosted in a couple weeks ago talking up sid (gotta love updates every 6 ish hours!), but OpenSUSE was my first love back in 2011 when I got sick of windows during my freshman year, and they really do Plasma well... seems like you guys might be onto something with lizard Brent!

A for ssl cert, why not use traefik to get your certs: https://doc.traefik.io/traefik/master/https/tailscale/ or https://leonsteenkamp.co.za/posts/traefikproxyintro/ which brings up using a dns challenge for certs instead of needing to be accessible via port 80. This should allow you to do a cert for, say, nextcloud.ladyjupes.com using the tailscale ip in linode's domain management therefore only being accessible by tailscale, but still having a proper DNS entry.

I hear the complaining about not wanting to get a ticket, and all I think to myself is put the phone down and follow the traffic laws, Chris. what will your kids say when they listen to this episode when they're driving? It's okay to speed and break laws as long as I know where the cops are? Personally, I have changed my habits over the past few years to leave earlier, be more prepared, and go the speed limit and keep my eyes on the horizon scanning for the police instead of on my phone.

long time listener, first time booster … the pronunciation debate is hilarious … we have a big issue in the industry … how does one reconcile “sudo” as “sue due” and “gif” as “jiff” … if it’s “super user do” then it’s “graphics interchange format - gif” … no? ;)

A vote for OpenSUSE Tumbleweed. BUT, you don't have to update daily. I've been using Tumbleweed as my daily driver since the day you did a 180 with nix. I now run RockSTOR (a Leap based NAS), a Tumbleweed transactional server running services in containers, Tumbleweed on WSL for fun while I'm gaming on Windows (Fortnite won't run on Linux properly), and Tumbleweed on my laptop, and all this is from a guy who has a Debian tattoo. Geeko is coming to my right shoulder next month.

Boosting from funds sent to my fountain wallet via my umbrel server, through my channel Jupiter Broadcasting's lightning node setup with nolooking. Easy setup and even opened up 1,000,000 sat inbound liquidity in one step! https://nolooking.chaincase.app/

Awesome looong live episode!! I agree that it is ok to settle on a distribution for the sake of productivity and your own sanity. For me that choice is Ubuntu Mate. I am highly productive on it and agree with the maintainers decisions. In order to appease my testing and distro hopping, I purchased one of those beelink mini boxes previously mentioned. all the best.

Hey I have a method that will help you avoid speed traps. It's cross platform, rarely crashes, open source and costs you nothing! It's called: Stop speeding. Also, pay attention to the road instead of 2+ apps on a phone! You're welcome ;)

(Reply to the after-show discussion) Chris, I've been listening for a long time. Sometime shortly after Matt Hartley joined LAS as the main co-host. (he had that run of being the Tutorial guy IIRC, I watched much of the back-catalog at one point.) When you recommend something, I trust it. Bitcoin was an obvious one. I just needed the Lightning nudge. You are fantastic at what you do, and you know Linux. Knock out that imposter syndrome ;) (to you and the other hosts as well!) Chris Fisher 2024.

I'm sad to see Patreon go, though I understand! I haven't used it in a while, having switched to the jupiter.party subscription a while ago. I'm starting to change my own mind on the Members feed's being boost enabled. On one hand, It would be nice to stream sats while listening. On the other hand, I want to keep this show at the top of the Fountain list, and splitting the feeds might cause this one to lower in the rank!

In regards to your maps/Waze situation, why not do a car phone with Graphene+Waze, and sign up for a brand new account using Bitwarden's username generator? As you say, don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

I am totally down with the "cold storage on Mars" idea. I can totally see this as another archival solution along the lines of S3 Glacier. AWS already has "Snowball" and "Snowmobile". Why not "Comet", which would ship Exabytes of high density data to Mars, or the moon, via Blue Origin? I could see this happening in the next five to ten years. Data retrieval would be a little harder, not to mention expensive, but this is permanent archival data anyway, right?

Big thanks for the mention of tailscale's DNS issue with grapheneOS - I'd been having issues getting tailscale to work on grapheneos, and their DNS was enabled!

If Brent has a big enough storage device or another place for a hard drive in his laptop, why not dual boot OpenSuse and Debian?

Well I’m going to do it. I just purchased a Pixel 4a 5G and I’m going to try out Android again after years of being an iPhone user. I may look into CalyxOS or GrapheneOS as an alternative ROM instead of using stock Android. Looking forward to this little experiment of mine. Excited to hear how your iPhone to GrapheneOS experience continues to evolve as time goes on.
