Conjecture, was Bitcoin over anticipated? Bitcoin may have influenced those with capabilities involving Time prior to emergence. Various sciences, fingerprint clues weaved into historicity & some temporal mechanics... How's not so important as "Is it possible" say for National equity or security? If sufficiently powerful entities were somehow exploring different destinies/time streams might they decide to exercise controls? Over tech, over history, against M.A.D, belligerence & even protocols.
