We have quite the amazing show today, old school vs new school, technology, banking, recession, dating advice, clients, designs and oh right, we finally get to plumbing, everything to do with plumbing and the construction life.

G. Michael Hopf

“Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times.” The quote is from a post-apocalyptic novel called “Those Who Remain” by the author G. Michael Hopf. One could be tempted to say that things must be this way – it is the circle of life.

Let’s roll out the tax talk, running your business and why you really need to be an “outstanding citizen”. We shift gears, literally, into enjoying your life, work hard and make sure you buy those things you always wanted to buy. We can’t believe there are GC’s out there that refuse to have a jobsite toilet, to the point Danny wants to have his own toilet in his Sprinter van. Then we finally get talking about plumbing, loads of old school vs new school ways of it was, what it is like today and where it’s heading tomorrow. We even touch on the BS political correctness of changing the name “master” in construction, but Danny still calls it The House of Lancaster for all you listeners outside of Toronto, Lancaster refers to a strip joint in town.

Pizza arrives and the boys take a break.

After a well-deserved and needed pizza and wine break, the boys get right back at it. We get discussing how to deal with young trades and parenting and one day Danny and his wife get called into the principal’s office not for their son, because their son mentioned his parents were arguing the previous evening. WTF has the world gone too. That leads us to do tradesmen still whistle at women passing by the jobsite. Jobsite appearance and how plumbers take it to new heights with haircare products, cologne and jewelry, where are you guys going?

We get back on the plumbing track, bid debate about copper vs pex. The boys go on a huge rant on key plumbing fixtures starting with showers and multiple heads and the amount of water clients are requesting. Danny gets right into his fav and least fav plumbing brands and products and for great reason. Who’s choosing the plumbing fixtures and why, Danny shares some great insight.

We end the show talking about the “car”, what Danny bought himself, or technically what his wife bought him for all of those hard work days and nights. Danny has made a great living. Passionate about being a Plumber, proud to call himself a tradesperson, and happy he lives a construction life. By the way, the “car” is a Porsche 911 Targa 4S. Enjoy your work/life balance ladies and gentlemen.

Danny doesn’t consider himself “successful” he will still chase that 100-dollar service call, hes still hungry and has the drive to keep moving forward. That’s The Construction Life.

Thank you, Danny, for an amazing chat about construction, plumbing, relationships and hard work. Reach out to Danny his email right-choice@rogers.com
