Cancer and the Healthcare System Through the Eyes of a Daughter, Caregiver, and Patient Advocate with Melissa Mullamphy
Melissa Mullamphy is a patient advocate. She was also the caregiver for her mother, Constance Burns, who passed away from ovarian cancer. She has a message that needs to be heard and tips on making your healthcare experience and outcomes positive. Melissa wrote a memoir and self-help book called, Not in Vain, A Promise Kept. It is about her mom's battle with ovarian cancer 10 years ago. It is a real and raw account of what her mother and her family went through for nine months of her cancer journey that she ultimately lost. Melissa's vision and goal are to get the message out and help people find their voice and take better control of their health.

1. Ovarian cancer is known as the "silent killer" because the symptoms are often mistaken for other benign conditions, particularly the ones that affect the gastrointestinal system, or simply changes in a woman's body as she ages.
2. Always research hospitals, facilities, and doctors before becoming a patient. Read the reviews and ratings. Use them as a guide.
3. Befriend nurses.
