This week we continue our series titled “The book of Colossians”
A devotional study of the Bible, chapter by chapter and verse by verse, has the potential for bringing great blessings into the lives of those who participate.
These messages from Colossians will take us from now through to the end of the year on Thursday nights.
Today we are talking about An Open Secret.
The world of New Testament times was not a nonreligious world.
In fact, it was saturated with religion.
We could say that it was long on religion but short on revelation.
For many people, the old religions of Greece and Rome had lost their shine, and Judaism had hardened into legalism and exclusivism.
People were hungry and searching for a religion that would satisfy their lives and fill their souls.
The fullness of God’s revelation was not known until God became man in Jesus Christ.
But now this revelation has been unveiled, now this mystery has been made known, now this secret has been let out.
In English, mystery usually means something that is baffling and defies solution or understanding.
But to the Greeks it meant something that once had been hidden but now had been revealed, a revealed secret.
The glorious message of God to us through Paul is that this secret has now been made known, and not only to a few, but to everyone.
It was an open secret.
And what is that open secret?
It is “Christ in you, the hope of glory.”
All people can know Christ.
Everyone can know the fullness of God’s revelation.
