Richard goes through the stages of making and using a bowdrill - and why it may not actually be the ultimate survival tool.
There is no denying that keeping warm is vitally important in many survival situations, but the method used to create that warmth can be much more simple. There does also have to be a question asked about why you may have ended up in a situation whereby you have no other methods of making fire.
Fire is also useful for other activities, water purifying, cooking food etc. but again, is an open fire the best tool for the job? Camping stoves have come a long way, fuel is often easy to purchase and much less energy and time are required on your part to create hot water and food using a stove.
