In his time as a NASA mission controller, David Reed was a member of the both the Apollo 11 mission that landed Neil Armstrong on the moon and the ill-fated Apollo 13 mission. David was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in June 2014 and is currently in treatment for graft-versus-host disease damage to his lungs at Dana-Farber. David is under the care of Dr. Vincent Ho, the clinical director of the stem cell transplant program at Dana-Farber. David and Dr. Ho talk to Dale & Keefe about advancements in stem cell research that enable stem cell therapy to be used on patients of David’s age, something that was not possible 15 years ago.
