My name is Kirsty, I’m a 39 year old from Melbourne, Australia. I am a busy Mum to two amazing little boys, work part time as an occupational therapist and support my husband running his renovation and extension business.   I have struggled with my weight for as long as I can remember. I was always ‘bigger’ than all of my friends even though I was always trying to do something about it, but it just didn’t seem to matter, I so easily constantly gained weight no matter what. I have successfully lost a significant amount of weight on a number of occasions over the years, but every time, I always regained it and then some! There have been many times when I have just thrown my hands in the air out of defeat and just given up… and the weight kept creeping.   I lost 47kg (103lbs) before falling pregnant with my first son and felt fantastic! I swore I would never go back! But 4 years, 2 pregnancies and 56kg later, I found myself at my heaviest weight ever at 130kgs (286lbs). I felt so ashamed of myself for regaining the weight I had worked so hard to lose and I felt worse than ever. I struggled with pelvic pain post pregnancy, and entered a cycle of chronic inflammation. I was overweight, miserable and feeling like I was living in the body of an unhealthy 60 year old in my mid thirties.   Something had to change, and a friend introduced me to Michael Moseley’s “Fast 800” diet in May 2020. I started the fast 800 diet on 1st June 2020 and experienced significant success with a combination of fasting and restricting my daily calories. I made a connection between my insulin resistance and my lifetime of weight struggles and felt like I had finally uncovered the key to my success. For the first time in forever I didn’t feel like something was ‘wrong’ with me. I enjoyed understanding the science and dived right into understanding it more. I learned a LOT in this space over the coming months as I continued to experience success. I soon moved to OMAD and adopted a low carb/keto style diet and stopped counting calories. I felt full for the first time in forever and I was eating less and less often than ever before. Weight was quite literally falling off me for the first time in my life. From June 2020 to December 2020 I successfully lost 58kg (127lb). In 6 months I dropped from a size 22/24 to a size 8/10. I’ve been maintaining my weight loss for 9 months now and I have regained my life.   No longer am I living life from the sidelines, no longer am I ‘making up’ for the shame I felt about my size by over compensating and overachieving in other ways. I feel free to be entirely, unapologetically me for the first time in my adult life and it feels free! Fasting has given me the tools I will use for the rest of my life to keep feeling this way.
