Michael Casey, APRN-BC, FN, Nurse Practitioner, Gastrointestinal Oncology, Dana-Farber

Michael Casey, APRN-BC, FNP is a nurse practitioner in Gastrointestinal Oncology at
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. He is also the director of the Advanced Practice Nursing
department and co-chair of Dana-Farber’s Ethics Committee, as well as a member of the
American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
· He earned his bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from the University of Rochester
in 1998 and his master’s degree in nursing science from Boston College in 2002. He came to
Dana-Farber in 2009 and has worked here ever since.
· Michael’s favorite part of working at Dana-Farber is the privilege and intimacy of
contributing to individuals’ and their families’ well-being during what is in many cases the
biggest challenge of their lives. He also appreciates the strong sense of community within the
institution and is “humbled to share a workplace with so many colleagues who demonstrate the
commitment and impulse to care for other human beings with the degree of moral clarity
necessary in this job.”
· Michael felt an immediate bond with JR and describes him as “striking all who meet him
with an energy, enthusiasm, and positivity that is notable.” He admires his ability to be a caring
father, husband, business owner, and friend despite his disease and his commitment to living
life to the fullest.
· In his free time, Michael enjoys spending time with his wife Denise and their three
children Rory, Maeve and Declan. He is also an avid skier and biker, having completed the
PanMass challenge several times. He says that he enjoys long and arduous rides during which
he can think about the challenges his patients face every day and how fortunate he is to know
them.
