Our guest today on the Outdoor Adventure Series is Katie Hearsum.

Katie is an Outdoor Enthusiast, Freelance Writer, and the Author of Urban Hikes Denver: A Guide to the City's Greatest Urban Hiking.

Based in Colorado, Katie covers topics about tourism and the outdoors for publications such as U.S. News & World Report, 5280, and Elevation Outdoors magazine. She has explored all around the globe yet states that her favorite trail is the one that passes through her backyard.

Aha Moment

A few years ago, I was writing travel articles for a well-known national publication, and one day an old friend reached out to say that she had been researching an upcoming trip and had come across a great article that she had saved, which turned out to be mine, so that was neat. 

I’ve had that happen a few times, actually, and it’s always really fun to notice when someone is referring to something I’ve written, and they don’t realize that it was mine. 

Urban Hikes Denver hasn’t been out very long, but someone texted me a photo of my book on the shelf at REI, and that was pretty exciting. 

I don’t know that a hiking guide will necessarily transform anyone's life, but I hope it will inspire people to explore a bit more in their backyards and perhaps have a memorable experience or their own “aha” moment while doing it. I certainly believe that spending time outdoors and in nature can be life-changing.
