The 1967 draft was an odd one.. The first 19 picks were all high school players and 56 of the first 60 came from the high school ranks. The Indians drafted more than a few major leaguers but none that became more than a utility or back up type. there was not one player who stood out as an above average regular. While the 1967 draft helped teams like the Orioles and Cardinals built toward championships the Indians instead managed to find hitters who would not hit and pitchers who couldn't pitch. The only All Star has a career negative WAR, and his best season happened long after he left Cleveland. if you want to know why the Indians struggled so much in the 70s and 80s look no further than than drafts like this one.
