Hey everyone I’m Gary Hoban and welcome to Refinery Life Australia.
This week we are continuing our series on Sunday nights titled “Jesus Christ as Our High Priest.”
The book of Hebrews isn’t the most popular book in the New Testament.
In many respects it is neglected.
The Jewish, or Old Testament, back ground that permeates every chapter has probably contributed to its neglect by many pastors.
The book of Hebrews portrays an exalted concept of Jesus Christ.
This week we are talking about,
Christ’s Challenge, Perfection.
Text
Hebrews 6:1-3 (ESV)
6 Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God,
2 and of instruction about washings, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.
3 And this we will do if God permits.
Introduction
By nature we are sinful creatures, so we can never be perfect through our own efforts.
Romans 5:12 (ESV)
Death in Adam, Life in Christ
12 Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned—
Yet through the power of God we are always to move in that direction.
The authors purpose in this chapter was to challenge believers to aim for perfection.
To achieve this end, he presented the goal, gave reason for the struggle, and then revealed three instruments available to Christians in this adventure.
