Originally aired on January 9th. 2021, we are replaying it because of one of the stories in that particular podcast. A story of a shooting in 1994 at the Yancey County Courthouse involving a magistrate and several first responders. One of those individuals involved was Mike Boone. Mike survived the night and later testified against the shooter.

Mike Boone recently retired. Less than two weeks ago, I was police chief of Marshall, NC, a small town in western North Carolina. Mike had over 30 years of service as a law enforcement officer. On August 2nd, 20,24, Chief Boone was killed in an auto accident by a wanted fugitive in a stolen car traveling at a high rate of speed in the wrong lane of the Interstate. A suspect who was wanted for several outstanding felony warrants and suspected in the death of his girlfriend. He struck Chief Boone head-on. Killing him at exit 11 on I-26.
