Ray Flores is 68 years young, still rides his skateboard everyday and may become the first 70 year old I know who can still grind in a pool. Ray was born in 1951, he started skateboarding at 6 years old on roller skates and a 2 x 4, and was sponsored in 1964. So I think he's been skating longer than you and me, most likely you and me combined.
He has had many sponsors along the path, including Hobie, C&D, Dewey Weber, Pepsi, Grentec, and was an early Z-Boy. He won some of the earliest skateboard contests held, performed in crazy shows like Skateboard Mania, and appeared on several TV variety shows in skateboardings early days. He is lucky to have skated and been friends with some of the best skaters of all time from several generations.
Ray has owned skate shops, manufactured snowboards, made several albums with his band Thee Fourgiven, and much more. He is very deeply rooted in Dogtown history and his family born in Santa Monica several generations deep. He lives in Venice and we did this podcast on his dining room table surrounded by surf, skate and musical artifacts. He believes females have a great future in skateboarding and so do I, hope you find it an interesting listen.
