Welcome to The Daily Quote—a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, for April 5th.
Today is National Love Our Children Day—a day dedicated to celebrating and protecting children, making sure they feel valued, safe, and, most importantly, loved. If you have kids, today’s a good day to give them an extra hug. If you don’t have kids, it’s still a great reminder to support the little ones in your life—whether it’s nieces, nephews, students, or a kid in your neighborhood that could use a complement or some encouragement.
That brings me to today’s quote, which comes from Nelson Mandela, who once said:
"There can be no keener revelation of a society’s soul than the way in which it treats its children."
Now, that’s a powerful thought. If you really want to know what a society values—don’t look at its economy, its skyscrapers, or even its technological advancements. Look at how it treats its most vulnerable members—its children. Are they nurtured? Protected? Given opportunities to grow and succeed? If the answer is yes, then that’s a society worth celebrating. If the answer is “ehh... not so much,” then we’ve got work to do.
Kids don’t ask to be here. They don’t choose the circumstances they’re born into. But they do absorb everything around them—how they’re treated, the words spoken to them, the love they receive (or don’t receive). So, today is a reminder to be intentional about the way we interact with the next generation. Whether that’s being more patient, offering encouragement, or simply making a child laugh—every little bit matters.
And if you’re ever wondering if a small act of kindness makes a difference, just remember: kids remember everything. Including that time you promised them ice cream and “forgot.” Yeah, they never forget.
We have three awesome kiddos in our house. A boy and twin girls. My daughters had a summer camp where they were learning to act for the camera and they actually made a commercial for the Daily Quote. I was going to use it as the Trailer Episode for the podcast but they didn't want it to be out there so of course I respected their wishes. But recently they told me to go for it so I'm working on a new Trailer Episode for the Daily Quote.
Thanks girls!
That’s it for today’s episode. Take a moment to celebrate the kids in your life, and remember—how we treat them shapes the future. I'm Andrew McGivern, signing off for today, but I'll be back tomorrow, same pod time same pod station with another Daily Quote.
