2 Timothy 1:1-14


Zoe refers to life real and genuine, a life active and vigorous, devoted to God, blessed, in the portion even in this world of those who put their trust in Christ, but after the resurrection to be consummated by new accessions (among them a more perfect body), and to last for ever.


1. The Gospel empowers us to suffer well, v. 8


Here is what is happening… 

the message of the cross was scandalous

Paul’s message was out of style

Paul’s circumstance casts a shadow of doubt on his message

Prepositions...

“for the Gospel”

“by the power of God”


2. The Gospel magnifies what God has done, v. 9


“saved us”

“called us” 

“not because of our works”

“because of his own purpose and grace”

“in Christ Jesus”


3. The Gospel illuminates what Jesus has done, v. 10


Three things Jesus does…


a. abolishes death

b. brought life

c. and immortality


4. The Gospel involves certainty and responsibility, v. 11-14


Our certainty is toward God, v. 12

Our responsibility is to the Gospel, v. 13


Mental worship…


1. When people see you going through a hard time, which are they more likely to do, pity you or appreciate and respect the Gospel more? 

2. What is the difference in suffering because of the Gospel and suffering for the Gospel?

3. How does the Gospel inform the way you think about life (now) and immortality (then)? 

4. Do you tend to bring more light or heat to circumstances, conversations and situations you are involved in?

5. What would you like to be more certain about? 

6.  What questions will you ask as a result of what you heard today?
