A new study, out today, warns that millions of American school children are exposed to potentially toxic chemicals that are in the uniforms they wear to school.
But there’s a bill on Governor Newsom’s desk that would get rid of those very chemicals in kids’ clothes, at least in California
We are talking about PFAs, perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances, also known as “forever chemicals” because they get in your blood-stream and stay there. The textile industry uses them to repel water and stains in clothing, but they can also cause cancer and other serious diseases in humans, who inhale them, get them on their skin or drink them in water.
For more, KCBS Radio's Patti Reising, Bret Burkhart, and Doug Sovern are joined by by State Assembly member, Phil Ting of San Francisco. He's the author of AB1817, the Safer Clothes and Textiles Act, which has already passed the state legislature and awaits Governor Newsom’s signature.
