Meet Jen Schwartz of Motherhood Understood! A platform, community and story sharing hub for women affected by pregnancy and postpartum mental health issues that she created after surviving postpartum depression and anxiety with her own son, 7 years ago.
Jen realized how many mothers suffer in silence like she did. She built Motherhood Understood to provide women and their families with education, resources, connection, and support so that no mother has to experience a mental health illness in isolation and all mothers get the help they need to feel well and have the motherhood experience they deserve.
Jen is committed to shining the light on the darkest of places, where maternal mental health taboos have been hiding out, trying to make mothers believe they are not enough and all alone. Ali and Jen connected on social media 6 months or more so ago now, when Ali was also fighting her PPD and felt alone.Motherhood understood was a safe community to help her and find light in those very dark places.
Ali and Jen recently got to connect IRL at Mom Genes Fight PPD amazing event that Ali moderated and Jen was a speaker at and they knew it was time to do a podcast together.
This episode is so real and raw about motherhood, the unexpected, the challenges you face, what Jen faced 7 years ago and how she fights continuously even now to maintain her good mindset and be healthy. Jen is very real about her struggles, how she had to get medication and therapy to help her navigate it all and shares her advice from that journey.
Ali and Jen discuss their heaviness with PPD and how they had no idea what to expect or how to navigate it. How they felt hopeless without resources, support and really both were left to feel crazy! Neither pictured this was how motherhood was going to look like, and they want every mama to know you're not alone.
