The Mom Bod Series
Teens are bombarded with diet culture messaging from the world. The advertisements, peer pressure, bullying, and developmental insecurities that teens face can foster negative body image, eating disorders, and lowered self-esteem. All of these factors impact a teen’s relationship with their body and create a powerful inner narrative. So what is a parent to do?
We interview Dana Suchow, positive body image advocate and eating disorder expert, on how parents can provide empathy, shared experience, and strong core values to develop a safe home environment. Teens will be susceptible to body image distress whenever they step out the door, so creating a family value system that goes beyond our bodies and food can be imperative to helping our children (and ourselves) fight through the messages that we are going to hear.
