About two years had passed since Jesus had chosen His apostles.
Only a little more than six months remained before His crucifixion.
Our Lord needed to intensify His efforts to prepare the apostles for that event.
After Jesus refused to become a king, great multitudes of His disciples turned away and opposition against Him increased.
