Your teen is bombarded with diet culture messages, surrounded by influential teens and their family food beliefs, and is at a peak age of body image concerns and hormones. This will definitely cause distress to so many Mom’s because it will break their hearts as they watch their teens struggle with their self-image and it will bring back memories of their own body image struggles and pressures they have experienced to uphold the beauty ideal.
This week’s episode discusses body positive, intuitive eating based resources where parents can learn more about how to support their teen’s development physically and emotionally. We interview Katie Bartels, RD about how she guides her clients and their families around tricky nutritional dilemmas such as sport and school schedules, prom and swimsuit season, and pressure from our health obsessed culture. Dieting will permanently affect your child physically and emotionally, so our hope in this episode is to provide listeners with the information and mindset to help their teen fight against societal messaging.
