The privacy of transgender students has become a controversial topic for school boards across the state. Anderson Union High School District in Shasta County has implemented a policy that requires staff to notify parents if a student asks to use a name or gender identity that is different from what’s on their school records. Also, the city of Willows has opted to form its own law enforcement agency after a contract with the county sheriff’s department has ended, and the Klamath National Forest says cooler temperatures and shorter days have led to ideal conditions for prescribed burning.
