In this episode, Jon and Tim invite two special guests from two different universities into the expert seat for a session that provides explosive career advice for students!

Hannah Allison, Careers Widening Participation Manager at Lancaster University, and Matthew Howard, Deputy Head of Student Careers at the University of Leeds, are leaders in the university careers space.

We discuss why careers support at university is important, what support is offered, the additional assistance provided for students from underrepresented backgrounds at university, subject-specific careers support, how to plan for careers at university if you know your intended future job, and what to do if you don't.

Listen out for loads of career terms and definitions, including 121 appointments, enterprise qualifications, mentoring, internships, placements, networking, volunteering, the value of LinkedIn at university, peer mentoring, alumni links, careers fairs, how vacancies are advertised, and even career modules that can be included as part of a course, including employability skills awards.

Hannah and Matthew also reflect on the career advice they were offered, what they wish they were told, and more. This is 40 minutes of career gold dust.
