Hey everyone I’m Gary Hoban and welcome to Refinery Life Church.
Our new sermon series is titled “The Adequacy of Jesus Christ.”
As God promised to be adequate to meet the needs of Moses and the children of Israel, so to Jesus also claimed divine adequacy.
The great “I Am’s” of the Gospel of John are the texts we will be working through for these messages.
Today we are talking about I Am The Resurrection.
Some scholars have estimated that in the gospel accounts we have only fifty days of the earthly life of Jesus.
Fifty days out of approximately thirty three years is not very much.
Therefore we do not have a lot of knowledge about some of the lives of some of the people whom Jesus knew.
However, in the case of Mary, Martha, and their brother Lazarus, the gospel writers provide a number of intimate and personal details.
In John’s account of the resurrection of Lazarus, he said that Jesus loved Martha, and her sister and Lazarus.
Nowhere in the Gospels does Jesus directly say to anyone, “I love you.”
This is not to say that He never said that, it only points out that the phrase never appears.
Yet people knew Jesus loved them, and Jesus loved these three friends of His.
When He heard that Lazarus was ill, Jesus arrived at their home in Bethany to call Lazarus back from the dead.
It was during the performance of this miracle that Jesus pointed out to Martha that He had power over death.
