Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim
Friday, October 3, 2006 (Ramazan 21, 1427)
Those people who keep the order of Allah with fasting, they should be happy. And those who left the fasting should be very sad. The world has taken everyone hostage. This month should be purifying us — it is not for us just to abstain from eating and drinking. Holy Prophet (sws) said, about Ramadan: “The first ten days are Mercy (Rahmet), the second ten are Forgiveness (Maghfirat), and the last ten are Safety (Nejat).” We must make intention, in this month, and especially in the last 10 days, to sit somewhere quiet for the sake of Allah and remember Him. If you are making that intention, Allah will make it easy for you.

Ramazan 21, 1427
Alhamdulillah wa Shukr Allah.
Allah (swt) has grant us this life and the faith. And He has ordered us to protect this faith that He has given us. And He has shown us, sending us also what we have to do [to] protect our faith. How we [are] going to keep our faith in this world clean and pure, and to go from here to Ahirat clean and pure with that faith. And what will happen if we don’t keep that faith. He is sending Messengers and Books to tell us what is going to happen.
So alhamdulillah, one of the principles of Islam is fasting. First, the testimony of the faith. Second, it is the prayers. Third is the fasting. This month, Ramazan, we enter almost 20 days ago. We are coming to the end. Those people who keep the order of Allah and they are fasting, they should be happy. And those people who left the fasting, they should be very sad. Because they lost, one more time, big chance that Allah (swt) has granted the man in dunya and Ahirat with that — so much rewards and the blessing [he] is going to get in Ahirat, in dunya also, but in Ahirat…
In dunya, those who [are] not fasting, they should not expect to find cure for their sicknesses. No doctor is going to find cure. If they find cure for one, another sickness is going to come. Because Allah (swt) forbid us during this month [from] eating and drinking, and all kinds of activities — the pleasure activities during this time. If a man is disobedient to Allah, he should not be waiting [for] something ahead in front of him that [he] is going to get cure, no. But even if he’s good, he’s going to get sick. This is dunya. But in Ahirat, [there is] worse waiting for those.
Those who [are] keeping the order of Allah (swt), they should be happy. Holy Prophet (sws) is ordering — there [are] 2 rewards for those — one when they [are] breaking the fast, second when they’re entering Paradise. Allah (swt) [is] saying the reward of the fasting, nobody knows. “I didn’t let anybody to know. It’s in My presence.” Going to see it that time. The first 10 days is the Rahmet, (the Mercy) is raining down. Second 10 days is the Maghfiret (Forgiveness) that Allah (swt) is giving [to] His servants. And the last 10 days is the news for a man saving himself from the fire.
There is one night in the holy month of Ramazan, Laylatul Qadir, which Holy Prophet (sws) is ordering to us to look to find that night in the last 10 days of Ramazan. This is to show us that [we should] show more care and more discipline to our fasting. It’s not because we are coming to an end and, start being sloppy. But to be more disciplined in the end of the Ramazan now, last days. The man must — people coming to masjids by force nowadays. Going to iftar when the ezan is calling. In the old days, still now in some areas, people go to eat iftar in the masjids. They sit last 10 days in one corner of the masjid. And they pray, they remember Allah (swt).
The world has taken everyone hostage. Believers and unbelievers. Saying, “Oh, I have to work.” Work? Work for dunya, nonstop. And Ahirat is going, goodbye. You must make days and times for the Ramazan, especially, especially these days now, to save some time to say, “I’m going to sit here for the sake of Allah to make this much zikir, or to read this, recite this, or to pray this.” Not just to say, I am fasting and running around in the markets everywhere nonstop and doing all wrong things, collecting all wrong activities that is happening around you. No. The month must purify us. Must clean us. Allah (swt) ordering us not to eat and drink. Inside of us is resting now. It’s cleaning. Spiritually, you have to be cleaned also. Not to say, “I am very spiritual,” but spiritual person must be running inside the masjids of Allah (swt). Anytime they force themselves to find empty time to themselves, to sit somewhere to be with Allah.
So we must make the fasting that we fast, physically, we must force ourselves to gain the spiritual blessing with it. Gaining the spiritual blessing, you cannot gain that way — running around like ordinary other days, just staying hungry, doing nothing. At least the afternoon time, after Asr prayer, at least the believers should sit inside the masjid and to remember — to make some more extra zikir, and to meditate little bit. If the man [is] making that intention, Allah will make it easy. Not making intention, then it’s pretty hard. Everything is hard. In these days, eating and drinking is hard too. But we are praying, don’t forget. Those people who [are] praying now, they are alive and they [are] praying. They have one more prayer. When you die, they [are] going to put you in front of them. They are going to pray the Janaza prayer too.
So we must prepare ourselves to that. All this work that we are doing — it is to prepare ourself. When Angel of Death is going to come to us, this way he will take the life that is given to us easily. If we are not preparing ourself, he’s not going to come to us in that good face.
Allah (swt) also hid in that night inside that Ramazan, saying to us, “it is blessed and better than over 1000 months.” Almost 83 years of life. If a man is catching that night — catching that night is not sitting and watching the clock saying, “This is the night and I’m going to catch it.” No. All these calendars are wrong anyway. Muslims making everything according to Western ideas, Western calendars. Imitated calendars. The fake calendar. They [are] following the date around it.
But anyway, we are doing this. We must look. We must make intention, at least these 10 days now, in the afternoon time to sit somewhere after finishing all our duties. Don’t take that you are going to leave all your responsibilities left and right. And to say later, “I am meditating.” That is not acceptable, too. Because Allah (swt) has given to us enough time for dunya and Ahirat, that we can manage both of them together inshaAllah Rahman. If we do that, we will win for our own self. If we don’t do that, we will lose for our own self dunya and Ahirat.
Allahumma antas salam.
