Cheers, Craft Beer Nation! We’re very excited that the first episode of Craft Beer Republic is with one of our favorite brewers, Nic Bortolin, of 14 Cannons Brewery.
Nic and Greg sit down to talk about Brigantino, an Italian Pilsner that he brewed with fellow beer-nerd Chris Enegren of Enegren Brewing Co. What makes it Italian? A big part of it is the hops. Nic talks about how the collaboration started, who did what for the recipe, and the really fun way they decided which hops to use for the dry hop.
The beer focus for the day becomes very lager-centric, as Nic shares his multiple-award-winning Marzen, and his dark Czech lager, K-17. He also shares the fun story behind the name.
The guys catch up on what’s been happening at 14 Cannons for the last three and half years (Batch 85 if you want to go back to the beginning): changes to the taproom, how COVID has changed operations, and the silver lining of surviving a pandemic. Nic shares the fun, historical story behind Tyrannicide, his favorite style to brew right now, what hop he’s crushing on, and future plans for 14 Cannons (hint: there may be some spirits involved).
