We’re thrilled to have Fiona McEntee, from McEntee Law Group, as a guest today. Fiona is an immigrant from Dublin, Ireland, who has been in the United States for more than fifteen years and is a naturalized citizen. She is a mom, a wife, and an immigration lawyer based in Chicago. Fiona is also the author of a recently published, award-winning children’s book, Our American Dream, which helps children to understand the importance of a diverse and tolerant America.

Join us for this moving conversation around teaching our children to be welcoming of diverse cultures and showing empathy towards the stories behind immigration.

Show Highlights:

  • Fiona addresses the hypocrisy surrounding immigration.
  • Our American Dream was inspired by Fiona’s diverse clientele that she sees on a daily basis in her law practice.
  • The book shares stories based on real people that are relatable to kids.
  • Research shows that the younger children are when exposed to different cultures and diversity, the more culturally-competent they become and the more empathy they can have for other people.
  • ‘Undocumented’ is the appropriate word to use, rather than ‘illegal’.
  • Positive immigrant representation in the media has the ability to change the narrative on immigration.
  • There are an estimated eleven million undocumented immigrants living and working in the US.
  • Fiona speaks from the heart about what immigrants would be able to accomplish if they were given the security of status here in the US.
  • Immigration has been described as ‘the great entrepreneurial journey’.
  • We’re all in this together!
