Psalm 105 starts with an exhortation to “tell of all God’s wondrous works”: to remember what god has done, how he has blessed you, how he has answered prayer, how he has worked for your good, and then to tell others about it. Psalm 105 then describes in summary form the history of God’s miraculous goodness to Israel, including his promises to Abraham, his protection of the nation of Israel, their deliverance from famine, their rescue from slavery in Egypt, his provision of water an food in the wilderness, and his leading them into the Promised Land. This encouragement to “tell others how God has blessed you” is a common theme throughout the Psalms and throughout the Bible. Psalm 71:15-18 encourages us to pass on stories and experiences about God’s goodness “from one generation to another”. Psalm 40:9-10 says we should “tell the glad news in the great congregation”. We are exhorted to tell, recount, proclaim, communicate, express, sing, and make known to others all that God has done for us so that others may see, hear, understand and rejoice, so that our faith may be strengthened and God may be glorified.
