A loophole that allows gift card companies to charge upfront fees that slash the value of the vouchers should be abolished, a top consumer advocate says.
Fees for activating cards were banned in 2019 as part of a package of new laws designed to make the sector less predatory.
However, cards paying through a card system such as Visa or MasterCard were exempted from the ban.
