When Moet Hennessy overhauled their finished whisky portfolio of Glenmo, they went ahead and added premium age statements, and in the case of the Quita Ruban, (always the port finished bottling), the results have been spectacular. At 14 years old, Quinta Ruban exhibits loads of chocolate covered oranges, malt, and a blast of sweet lemon. At 92 proof, and non-chill filtered the palate is downright chewy with the expressive malt from Scotland's tallest stills practically showing off. Bright, bold malt tamed and accented by dark fruit from the port barrel ageing. At 14 years this has all the depth and maturity of an 18yr old scotch, but without the crazy price tag.
