She was born in the Netherlands, immigrated as a child to the U.S., grew up in Montana, and went to Montana State University. She did her medical training, followed by a general surgery internship and residency, at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences. She is certified by the American Board of Surgery and American Board of Lifestyle Medicine. Dr. Van Dyken, is a general and trauma surgeon at the Queen's Medical Center in Hawaii. She thoroughly enjoys her busy practice. It is especially rewarding for her to see the positive changes in her patients as they do a 180 and completely restructure their lives around plant-based living. In her spare time, Dr. Van Dyken loves yoga, photography, sailing, cycling and playing musical instruments including the guitar, ukulele and violin.
