Instead of being burdened with the weight of what you think your show “should be”, consider podcasting out in the wild. Remove the unnecessary mental load of what you believe are other’s expectations. Record on your phone while you’re in the car, while you’re walking the dog, while you’re doing dishes, while you’re washing clothes, while you’re doing housework, while you’re laying in bed. It doesn’t actually matter where.
Get comfortable being a podcaster in any circumstance or environment. Perhaps you create a mini-series that is more like a life-cast of you speaking your message outside the studio. Sort of like a day in the life moment in time where you share your thoughts around your show topic, in a real and raw way. Call it bonus content. No intro or outro music. Just you sharing your thoughts with us the listeners. There is something intimate about that kind of unscripted moment in time.
Does this mean you should not care about your audio quality? Not at all. Use wired earbuds or lapel mic with your phone. But remember this isn’t your studio set. Listeners are not going to expect studio sound. This is a slice-of-life moment in time of you taking your listeners behind the scenes to share some nugget of info or an epiphany you had that is applicable to their lives. Call it bonus content. Perhaps even make it an ongoing part of your podcast. Use different album art so that listeners know they’re not getting a regular episode, but instead a short real, and raw nugget of audio from you. Not sure your audience will like it? You already know I’m going to tell you to experiment and then ask your listener for feedback.
Engagement Can Be Rewarding
Now onto the second part of the episode where I share the behind-the-scenes of going live with Podcasting 2.0’s Live Item Tag via Blubrry’s PowerPress plugin.
In the last episode, I spoke about the #Value4Value model and how listeners can reward podcasters through Time Talent, and Treasure. Some of that treasure can be traditional monetary value like US dollars or your country’s currency or the value could be in SATS.
We already know you can earn SATS as a listener when you use the Fountain app. We also know we can receive SATS from listeners and supporters who provide value back to podcasters by streaming SATS for every minute listened or sending a message with a boost of SATS which is called a Boostagram. But did you know that you can receive and give SATS by commenting on your favorite episodes or creating clips from your favorite episodes? If others find the comments or clips have value they can reward you.
If this all sounds confusing, the best way to learn is to do it. So open up the Fountain app and take a look at the Activity to see how others are supporting their favorite podcasters and the listeners commenting and creating clips.
One thing you’ll notice is that even these comments and clips have the opportunity to earn value from others. This reminds me of the blockchain where engagement (known as curation) can also earn rewards. Cool, huh?
