After seeing blood in his urine, Angel went to the doctor and was diagnosed with metastatic upper tract urothelial cancer. The primary tumor was on his right kidney and had spread to his bones. Angel had surgery to remove his kidney, and received chemotherapy, radiation, scans, biopsies, and he will soon begin a new chemotherapy. Angel was a chemistry professor for 35 years at the University of Miami before retiring in 2021. He’s married with four children and enjoys reading, cooking, and playing and watching sports in his free time. Dr. Bellmunt specializes in treating prostate, bladder, and kidney cancers and has led major clinical trials that helped bring new treatments, particularly immunotherapies, to patients with bladder cancer.
