Just two weeks left until California’s second recall election involving a governor, and about a fifth of the voters have already cast their ballots. Governor Newsom is increasingly optimistic that he will survive the recall, as the early returns suggest things may be trending in his favor.
However, there are some notes of caution too, and of course with two weeks to go, anything can happen. Worsening wildfires, a wrong turn in the pandemic, unexpected power cuts, who knows what could turn the tide for or against Newsom in this recall.
Governor Newsom expressed confidence, telling reporters at a news conference in Oakland, he’s “going to bring this thing home.” We will see in two weeks, but there are some indications he could be right, in the early returns of ballots cast so far.
