As we know in the normal world, those who are down on their luck financially always have an opportunistic lender at arm's length ready to jump on the opportunity to charge a high-interest rate and bury that desperate person in debt.
This holds as well for countries. Many countries out there are very desperate as they are fighting high inflation, corruption, violence, and an entire host of issues that we don't see as common in first-world countries.
Organizations such as the IMF and the World Bank are eager to put other nations deep into debt when they get the chance. While on the surface it may look highly beneficial for the recipient country, often these loans cause financial hardship to those countries for years and decades to come.
