Because we live during the time between the first coming and the second coming of Christ - which is between the inauguration and the consummation of the kingdom of God - our Christian lives are characterized by the tension between the 'already' and the 'not yet.' Communion is meant to remind us of this and of our responsibilities to live for the kingdom of God.
