John Wayne Gacy (March 17, 1942 – May 10, 1994) was one of America's most notorious serial killers and sex offenders. Operating in Norwood Park Township near Chicago, Illinois, Gacy raped, tortured, and murdered at least 33 young men and boys between 1972 and 1978. His sinister acts earned him the moniker "Killer Clown," a reference to his public performances as "Pogo the Clown" at children's parties and charity events. This ruse quickly turned into a nightmare as Gacy subjected his captives to brutal rape and torture before ultimately killing them. His preferred methods of murder were asphyxiation or strangulation with a garrote.

The disposal of Gacy's victims was equally horrifying. He buried 26 bodies in the crawl space beneath his home, three elsewhere on his property, and discarded four in the nearby Des Plaines River.
