State Attorney General Rob Bonta announced this week that in a settlement with the federal government all new oil and gas leases on public lands in Central California will be halted while pending a review of the risks to public health and the environment.
This move comes after years and years of legal challenges from California environmentalists saying that policies put into place by Donald Trump allowed for drilling and fracking without properly considering how that affects the air and ground water.
