S4 Ep130: The Reckoning (Cont.) w/ Shea Butter FC
After several damaging stories regarding player abuse in the NWSL, the sky fell last week with the stunning article from The Athletic alleging multiple incidents of sexual coercion and/or misconduct at now-former NC Courage Head Coach Paul Riley against former players Sinead Farelly and Mana Shim. This has also resulted in the resignation of League Commissioner Lisa Baird, General Counsel Lisa Levine, as well as (as of 10/6 post-recording), Washington Spirit CEO Steve Baldwin, and Portland Thorns GM Gavin Wilkinson, as well as other execs that have failed to do better within the league.
We have touched on other incidents going on in the league and with this we now take a deeper dive into all that has transpired over the course of the last two years and with us once again to help guide to how we got here are Skye & Sylvs from The Shea Butter FC Podcast. We discuss how the league exposed the players to be abused at nearly every turn and how the league can move forward if it to recover from these scandals.
